
In North America, Hip-Hop music generates over 2 Billion dollars a year in record sales. Over the last decade, urban radio stations have raised to the top of the charts, with Hip-Hop music ranking 2nd, only to rock, as America’s favorite genre of music. In addition to controlling the radio airways, urban music has become one of North America’s favorite cellular ring tones. During the first half of 2004, U.S. ring tone sales were over $300 million per year and 56% of sales were Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop music group, the Black Eyed Peas, sold over 2 million songs via cellular phones, holding the record as the first artist of any kind to do so.
